KNOSSOS PALACE & ARCAHEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

What you'll do

Embark on a journey of discovery to uncover the secrets of the ancient Minoan civilization, as we explore the remnants of their era. The city of Knossos, inhabited from the Neolithic era until the 5th century A.D., is undoubtedly the birthplace of the first civilization of Europe, the Minoans.

The first excavations were initiated by the Heraklian Minos Kalokairinos in 1878. Subsequently, from 1900 to 1913 and 1922 to 1930, the British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans carried out further excavations, completing the scientific research and revealing the Minoan palace in its entirety. According to tradition, this was the residence of the wise King Minos.

The palace of Knossos is spread around a large central court, with the awe-inspiring Throne Room, the fresco of the "Prince of the Lilies," the imposing Grand Staircase, and the Queen's Megaron located in the east. As you walk through the apartments of the palace and observe the finds, you will feel a sense of connection to this cultural heritage.
